Backwater sanitary valves

What is a backwater sanitary valve and how does it work?

Backwater sanitary valves (also known as “check valves” or “backwater valves”), are mechanical devices that are designed to allow the flow of waste water in one direction only, – away from your home. AKA as the street side of the main line drainage system. Backwater valves are installed inside the basement under the floor where the sanitary building drain is connecting to the sewer lateral heading out to the main town, or city's trunk line. Backwater valves offer a decrease in risk of flooding of sewage backing up into your home or work place basement. Backwater valves need to be adequately maintained to keep them functioning properly.
