Catch Basins

Catch basins are structures that collect and direct stormwater runoff from paved surfaces. They are made of concrete or metal and are built into the ground.

How they work

1. Collect water: A grate or inlet pipe collects water and debris from the street.
2. Trap debris: The grate traps large debris like leaves, sticks, and trash.
3. Settle heavier materials: Heavier materials like sand, dirt, and leaves settle at the bottom of the basin.
4. Direct water: When the water reaches a certain level, it flows out through an outlet pipe to a new location.
