A dry well is most often used in situations where a storm sewer connection is not available. Functioning the same as a French drain, dry wells provide large-capacity water collection and retention. They absorb saturated water from a large surrounding area and can dissipate the water back into the soil as it dries out. Commonly for those without storm sewer access, the dry well can be designed and set up to accommodate a pump to remove the water. This allows an unlimited capacity to remove ground saturation. Even without a pump, dry wells are very effective in collecting and dissipating water into the surrounding soil.
